Post Minor (I hope) engine issues

After about 2 months at the mechanics, I have finally got my beloved 1965 230s back on the road.

A culmination of events (lost keys/broken suspension) led to the car sitting idle for too long and the petrol going off in the fuel system. My mechanic had to remove, clean and reskin the fuel tank, and replace the carbeurators (cleaning out the fuel lines etc along the way).

It is (generally) running better than it ever has now.

However there are a couple of side effects of this overhaul.

The is now a petrol smell in the car which I can only get rid of if I drive with the window down.
Also the car appears to be misfiring every now and then when I accelerate - it didn't do this before from memory.
And finally every now and then (once an outing) I get a puff of white/blue smoke when I accelerate from a stationary position (though not when I first start the car).

Does anyone have any advice on these issues? Have some things been missed/forgotten by the mechanic when they were doing the carbs?

Thanks

Sounds like they misadjusted something. I'd check timing first, but my knowledge of carb'ed cars is scant. Does it smell like it's running rich? Have you checked the plugs?

Another thing you might want to check is if the muffler is still ok. Mine had asimilar problem that you smelled gas in the car and we had the muffler changed and now you don't smell gasoline in the car

A great way to clean out varnish is to put a quart of acetone in your fuel when you fill up next, or a pint to a half. It appears that you are having 'varnish boogers' get in the fuel lines now and then.

I'd also recommend you drain your tank and flush both the lines and tank.

So it turns out the carburetor hadn't been tuned properly by the guys that reconditioned it. I sent it back to them to re-configure.
Thanks for all your thoughts.
