1972 250C Stored for years... what now?

Hello - I have an option to purchase a 1972 250C that has been sitting for 4 years. The owner says it ran when it was put away but doesn't do so now (though I haven't yet asked what he did to it to try to start it).

A few questions -

1) What issues could be preventing it starting?
2) What can be done to see if it's simply a case if fluids sitting too long or a deeper (and thus more expensive) mechanical issue?
3) Roughly what would be considered a good price?

Thanks in advance to those who care to weigh in!

I'd start out assuming the gas was bad and go from there. Check for rust too - it'll dictate the asking price. How much does he want for it?

Not being all that technically savvy, how would I check that?

He's asking $500.

Look in the rear tire wells and under the car for rust, as well as the rocker panels. Mercedes' of these years are known for their rust.

$500 is a good price of any old Mercedes as parts alone would worth more than that.
