info on my 1968se

i have just picked up a 1968se, unfortunetly i know nothing about this car. it has a 6cyl motor with dual carbs,4 wheel disc brakes, wood trim around the windows. it runs good and the 4 speed auto trans works fine. the chrome and body are in real good shape except it needs paint. the inside is perfect. it also has passing lights on the front fenders. can somebody recammend any repair manuals that may be available? also since it came with two truck loads of spare parts for what looks like many different models of mb.is there a book that can help me identfy these parts? please bear with me as this is my first time posting on a computer. i would be thankful for any advice that you may have to offer. thanks again, from eddd

Welcome, Eddd!

If it has dual carbs, it is an S, not SE. E stands for Einspritz, as fuel injection. You may have the weird 3-barrel Solex carbs, as mine did.

Take pics, we need pics of the car and the parts you have.

Yes, likely a 280S, a chassis number would clear that up. Parts breakdowns are available online here: Parts Catalog. Under 'Vin No.', enter the first six numbers of your chassis number or 108016, then rummage around until you find what you want.

Post the first 8 digits of the VIN. It should be something like 108.xxx-yy on the plate over the radiator. That will identify the model uniquely. The other digits will help us confirm the year. But save that for later.
