Take a photo of the wiring at the starter and inspect the wires leading back to the firewall too.
From your description of the previous owner this is not surprising!
I'm a photographer by trade, but thanks for the tip.
I suck with electronics of any sort, so I'll probably just be posting photos for and taking advice from you guys to give the mechanic that finally works on it some help and direction. The less hours I have to pay them for the better, in my book. But I'm interested in knowing my car thoroughly, too. Because I have a serious love for this car. And believe me it needs it.
And yeah, he's a nice enough guy, but a little weird. It doesn't really surprise me much either. I'm actually pretty amazed, I've had it over a year now and this is the first issue I've had with it. Had it tuned up and looked at when I first bought it, but this is the first thing it's asked for/thrown at me.
And of course, it's just really crummy timing.
Thanks again to everyone responding thus far. I usually run into a lot of attitude on car forums, and it's refreshing not to see it here. I really appreciate the help. You guys are awesome.
