1972 220d smoker
Hi I purchased a 1972 220d a couple of weeks ago and am trying to get her roadworthy. Its been sitting for years - 86135 miles original and got it for a dream because it smokes alot and they wanted it out of the barn. I changed oil and fuel filters, drained diesel out of tank, all fresh diesel and oil. Stll smokes but when running it yesterday I noticed what looks like a vacuum line that goes to the intake in front that looked like it had oil in it. It goes down front of engine into some kind of pump. I disconnected the line while engine was running and took a oil bath (my merc was a nice white before this). The engine ran different and I didn't see as much smoke. What is this line and should it have all this oil in it. I am new to the diesel engine but am willing to learn for the sake of this white beast. Am planning on registering it within next few weeks and would appreciate any help. THANXX
p.s. anyone know where I can score some radio knobs for the old becker radio in it?
