Post *ADVICE* 1959 190B Ponton

I am 17 years old and live in Tasmania, Australia. This week purchased my first car, it is 1959 190B Ponton. It is in excellent mechanical condition only having travelled 40,000 miles since a full mechanical overhall including the gearbox and clutch etc. Before it can be driven daily it needs a new set of tyres and shock absorbers, i was wondering if anyone had any advice on the types that could be used and where they could sourced from? thanks

Bilsteins are the original shocks and 13" tires are becoming harder to find. You can upgrade to 14's perhaps.

Look at the PONTON site:

and the 190SL site:

Please post some pics.

The 190SL's share many parts with yours.

Not part of the in-crowd since 1952. It's BRAKES not breaks. You break a bone, use brakes to stop your car. /rant

I have 4 of these cars and yes, you can put on 14" wheels from a 1960's W111 or W108 but you'll have to put a spacer washer in behind each lug bolt and then bend the front brake lines just a little to clear them from rubbing the front wheels. It works; I've done it. Discount Tire Direct still sells 13" tires (either 175-80R13 or 195-60R13 will fit). Sumitomo still makes 13" tires and you may find some Yokohama LS-4's available too.

Also check COKER TIRE. Coker Tire - Coker Tire. They supply vintage tires for many applications.
