Proper vacuum gauge readings

I have an '84 300td that shifts with a "thump" when I come to a stop so I replaced the vacuum connections and worn levers on the 3 way vacuum fitting. The problem still exists. With the engine running the vacuum gauge from the supply lines gives me a reading of 20-22. The reading I get from the supply side that connects to the green dashpot is zero. That makes no sense to me when I get a reading from all the other connectors. Why am I not getting a reading that feeds to the dashpot? Would this be why the car shifts so hard?
I'm a newbie to vacuum testing.
