It's only a 4.5 - when you get it all cleaned up, running well, and a new air suspension on it, it'll be worth $4000 IF you can sell it. Pass unless you're dying for a project car that you can work on yourself.

I am almost certain the 300SEL 3.5 was available in the US. In fact now that I think of it I am positive. I saw a dealer brochure for one.

And most of the 3.5 badged cars that came into the USA the first couple of years were actually 4.5 M116 motors if you will check the eng. #. Mercedes did this because the 4.5 was not available in Europe for a few years, and the 4.5 was for the smogged down US version that could not compete with the Euro 3.5 M115 motor anyway.
