Backwards distributer?

I've noticed that my timing (according to my light) is off. But the closer I try to get it to TDC the worse it gets. My Haynes book talks about adjusting the vacuum advance. I looked and mine has no adjusting bolt. Then comparing mine to pictures that I have seen, the vacuum advance seems to be pointing the wrong way. The pics I have seen show the advance pointing toward the radiator. Mine points toward the battery. The Haynes manual also talks about some distributors having a notch that you line up with the #1 spark plug. Mine has that notch and it is lined up toward the #1 plug. I am assuming that this is a distributor off of another model of Mercedes, but I am wondering if I am going to ruin something by leaving it as is. The car runs good. Starts easy, responsive, not as much torque as I think it should have, but it also no longer has the FI set up. It has an SU carb on the FI intake. Here are some pics of the distributor and carb. Any advice would be appreciated, cause I'm at a loss.[IMG][/IMG
