W114 Engine change

I am looking into buying a 1970 250 and was wondering if anybody has put a different engine in these cars, maybe a newer benz engine or other make. Thanks in advance.

Chevy Small block has been done. Real tight fit on the driverside for exhaust manifold clearance.

Hi zlaja,
I presently have a W114-010, ie an early model, which started out with a 250 engine, and now has a 280 (M130) engine. This is its 3rd engine, as the engine number on its data card is different to that on its registration papers, which in turn is different to the engine actually in the car!
I understand that the newer 280 engine (M110) is very difficult to fit into earlier body shells because there were two diagonal stiffening struts from the fire wall to the side chassis members and the DOHC cover is too high and too wide.
Of course there are the usual problems matching up the accessories such as power steering, air conditioning, auto transmission, oil cooler, etc.
Keep lookingh

What's wrong w/the original engine? They are very durable and easily rebuilt. bottom end will live forever if maintained properly. why not add a dual carb setup from the S this will surely spice up performance and make it more enjoyable. please let us know what you find..
