I have got the Heel verlag /8 book in German and did some searching for you.
As suggested, engine could be M130 2.8 ltr. The official model indication for 2.8 ltr is 250 (2.8), I'm not familiar with these. However, from photo, the engine looks pretty similar to my M180 engine in my '72 W114 230.6
W114 (it's not a W115 as these are only 4-cyl, yours is definitely a 6-cyl) with 230/230.6 engines were produced from 1/'68 to 12/'76 (over 200,000 of them) and span almost the entire life of this model . M130 2.8 ltr engine models were produced from 7/'70 to 7/'76 only total of ~34,000
As far as badges go, people change these all the time. My car had a 250 badge on it that I've now replaced with original 230.6. I'd say check engine number as previously advised.
Ribbed tail lights were introduced for Series 2 in Aug-'73, however at the same time the front quarter windows disappeared. Yours has these quarter windows still so I guess tail lights are non original (people will not change quarter windows as easy as they do tail lights). The steering wheel could be original, as this "sicherheitslenkrad" was introduced from series 1.5 from apr-'72.
Car also has wide trunk grip, also a feature from series 2. But grip could be replaced with tail lights. Perhaps car has been in accident after which rear has somewhat been altered...
So all up I guess the car is a W114 230.6 or 250 (with 2.8 ltr engine), series 1.5 between Apr-'72 and Aug-'73.
Interested to hear about other opinions
