Is this a good 114 coupe? - Mercedes-Benz Forum

Is this a good 114 coupe?

I am on the process of buyind a merc coupe. I was originally looking for a w123, either a 280 or a 230 CE, but i came across this beauty and I am having serious doubts now.

On the one hand 123s are easier to service and maintain and might be even safer and more reliable but i prefer older style. I want the car for ocasional outings on the weekends together with my wife and three kids. What one would you recommend and what do you think from the pictures?

The car is a 250 CE auto from 1972 and one owner, black leather interior and no seat belts on the back (I hope there will be attachements on the back to install them). They are asking about the same price as for a 280 CE auto w123 in similar shape (pretty good)

I have a ride this morning and the car performs faultlessly but some jerky changes. Oil pressure is atop. Blows frozen wind from the air conditioner and front and back windows go up and down with no problem (they are all manual).

One concern is that we could not make the non conditioned air going (might be a knackered blower?) and the motor temperature indicator didn´t move. It is been a cold morning but I would have thought that the peg should move at least a bit.

I would greatly appreciate your knowledgeable comments.

id suggest getting a euro model w123 coupe if youre after one, youd prob want one with the fuel injection as opposed to carbuerator, thats the ce models

That's a sharp looking W114 coupe... nice shade too!
1972 was the last year the 250CE was made (2,044 units for '72).
The M114 in that fuel-injected coupe produces 150hp DIN.

The W123 280CE produces 185hp DIN from its M110 DOHC... so more power there.
A 123 is easier to maintain too. And as you probably know, more popular.

But if you're after the classic look for the most part, then the 114 is a fair choice especially since there won't be many out there unlike the ever so popular 123s.

The fun part is also continuously caring and pampering it... especially if it's going to be a keeper.
