74 280 Gas sedan

Hey folks,

I'm new to the site, and I have a couple of questions. I just recently came into ownership of a 1974 280 Gas Sedan, unfortunatly for me it has been sitting in a barn for the last 3 years. My question is where do I need to start to get this baby running?

Yes, it was I actually drove it to the barn where it was parked, it was my grandfathers. When I got into it to load it on the trailer, it started after replacing the battery. But unfortunatly the rear brake lines blew, which I assume is from dry rot. so it will fire up. Now I would like to basically rebuild this car to make a weekend driver out of her.

First thing first, drain the tank and put fresh fuel in. Don't just put fresh fuel in, drain the tank first so that you get rid of any crud before it goes into the fuel system. Then check the wiring to make sure that mice have not been at them and check the fluids.

You may want to pull the valve cover off and pour a quart of oil onto the cams as they will be bone dry.

Crank the engine with the coil wire disconnected and make sure it builds oil pressure.

Then try starting.

With best regards
