69 280se price ideas(pics incl)

how much u guys thinkni should pay for this 69 us version 280se. the engine just turned over when i tried to start it probably just needs new points cause the engine doesn't hesitate to turn just no spark, easy fix. the owner had just started it few days ago then it didnt start again. theres no leaks under the car the only rust that i could find was cosmetic the frame and usu rust points otherwise seem fine. it's got 86,000 original miles, ac, interior is very good few cracks nothing major. well i was thinking between 2-4000, is this too much? or too little? the owner seemed pleasantly suprised when i siad this. maybe i shouldve asked here first with the pics and description before spewing numbers lol anyway heres pics the car was dirty because of the car cover...

Any rust is "Too much rust"

Good low mileage parts car, rust under side chrome strip indicates serious pending problem. Same for motor compartment, I have had to dispose of better, less rusted bodies. Buy it for parts and running only, wait for better body. I have a rust free 69 280SE car purchased for $500 needed motor work though.
Note the rust to the owner and offer $500-800. Rust restoration and paint will be 5-8k. The motor (after rebuilding, re-sealing, rings, valves, gasketing)) will be worth the price.

Not sure where you are located. But I think you can probably do much better than 2 to 4k.

For example take a look at this 1971 Mercedes 280SE 1971 Mercedes 280SE 280 6cyl 4 door

If I had the room I'd snatch it up. After taking a look of course.

i am in goldsboro north carolina near seymour johnson afb.
well i didnt know what to offer, and like i said when i spurted out that number he was shocked, but like me he didn't know much better either. i'm pretty sure if i go to him with coupla hundred in my hands he would part with it. he knows how much i like the car and said he would like to see someone appreciate it like he did. since he's had back surgery he can't do a lot of maintenance and his sons dont want it, they just look at it as an old beast. thank you guys for letting me know what up. oh yeah the stuff that looks like rust in the engine compartment is dried leaves and moss, i thought it was rust also until closer inspection. lol
