Post Need information

I have had a 250CE for about 10 years. The car sits in my driveway most of the time and gets very little use. It's not under cover and as a result it is starting to rust. The floor is very rusty because water has sipped under the carpets.

Not sure if it's worth restoring this car and if the rust is gone to the point of making it impossible to restore. I love the shape and would hate to see it in a wreckers yard.

I just wanted to get some input on this issue.

You can get those bodies / complete cars for under $1k here in Southern California.
Rust restore is expensive

That's cheap! Brian
There are not many available for sale in Melbourne Australia and certainly not at that price.
I wonder if any Ausie members have any info?

Bad news for you Brian. A guy on the Ozbenz forum who lives in Tassie bought a W1114 280CE for $4k, spent $10k on it, and tried to sell it. It had some rust in the sills and jacking points. Sold for $2k. Another guy in Darwin is selling his project due to rust. It seems that the 114's are just not that loved at the moment. And a guy in Sydney was selling a rust free parts car recently. I suggest you sign up and look in the for sale sections.

What shape is the floor in? If the rust has not eaten through, maybe you could pull all the carpets and sound deadener out, use POR15 to stop further rusting, and buy a little portable carport to keep the car out of the rain.

Otherwise, sell out ASAP before the rust does make it terminal. Just be prepared to get little out of the deal other than the thought that the car may go on to live again...
