'73 280SE 4.5 Intermittently running rich
I've got the damndest problem...
My '73 280SE 4.5 is currently in the shop for an issue that can't seem to be nailed down. While idling, the car will randomly run too rich, without any rhyme or reason. After the gas pedal is "punched," or even on its own, the car then runs like it should. It seems to only do this when the air temp gets hot or when the engine gets up there in temp.
To date, I've replaced about everything under the hood, for one reason or another, to include:
injectors, plugs, points and wires
throttle posit. sensor
air inection valve
cold start valve
temp sensors for air and coolant
It's currently with a mechanic in San Diego, and admittedly, they've gotten the car to run the best I've ever seen it. However, this rich-run thing has us all stumped.
