1974 Mercedes 230

Hi all,

I finally bought a 1974 Mercedes 230 automatic.
One owner with original 130.000 miles.
All documented and always serviced by Mercedes.
Solid body with minor rust under one wheel.
Brakes, hoses, wires, spark plugs, carburator, all new.
I started cleaning it and I'm ready to drive.
I drove it around 400 something km's from the owner's house to mine.
One thing I've noticed is that this baby doesn't go faster than 100km/h and uphills just slows to 70km/h.
No weird noises, nothing just doesn't go, pedal to the metal.
Idles just fine and starts every single time with no smoke from the engine.

Any ideas?

I would also like to buy springs and shocks to lower around 1 1/2 inch.
Any recommendations?

THank you so much.

p.s. Once I learn how to post pictures I'll post.

Does the gas linkage open the throttle? Use an assistant to press the accelerator and look if the throttle opens completely.

The air filter is new too I hope.

If you find out what kind of springs the car uses to lower it, let me know. I have been trying to find some to lower my '74 280.

Sounds like fuel starvation, replace the fuel filter. First, do a compression test at operating temp and check timing.
