w114 engine miss

Hi! I've recently had the carbies on my 250 tuned. There is good fuel flow and pressure. All seems to be fine but under load there is a slight but persistent miss. It could be electrical but the coil, the distributor cap and the rotor are OK. So too are the leads and the plugs. If this fault is electrical, could a faulty capacitor be the cause this?

I,ve always said this "start with the basics!!"
1/ Compression or leak down test .
2/ get the ignition perfect.

3/ Valve clearance

4/Then and only then check the fuel system.
If you think about it,starting a tune up by messing with the carbs is silly if the engine cannot burn it. [:-)]

These steps have been done. My 250 is maintained by a Merc guru (dare I say a Merc nerd) of some decades experience. He has checked all these basics and is very knowledgeable about Zenith carbs. Still this problem is baffling him.
