LOL Ebay W111 coupe listing

People.

Check this listing for a W111 220SEb Coupe:

eBay Motors: Mercedes-Benz : 200-Series (item 140253523877 end time Aug-18-08 18:27:09 PDT)

Especially the comment:

"Last owner said that when the car was running it was the most reliable car he ever owned. "

That's like - she was the most faithful wife I ever had, except when she was sleeping around.....

might be worth that much if the pictures reflect the actual condition and there is no major rust issues....i have a bunch of engines..and too many cars otherwise it's tempting to have someone look it over

"I don't know anything for a fact",but have lots of opinions that might or might not pan out!

Seems like coupes are going up more than sedans.

Their original cost was higher as well. I have a sneaking hunch that the car pictured in the eBay listing was not an official U.S. import, but rather a European car brought over later on... If that is the case, then there may well be a lot of issues covered by that nice shiny new paint.

I would never buy a car like that sight unseen off of an Internet auction site.

I think I'll offer the seller $100.00 for it.

Click on the Red Tab link just below the picture. It looks like a rather professional operation.

You have to ask yourself: If they're such a great resto shop, then why don't they restore it? Another red flag is in their terms. "A non refundable $2000.00 deposit is due within 24 hours of end of auction." Better go see it before you bid or live close by or you're going to be stuck with something they won't waste their time on.

From what I can see in the photos:

The bumpers are off a 68 or newer car, possibly a sedan, not a coupe.

The mirror on the fenders and the turn signals in the headlight bezels indicate a euro car, possibly French or Italian market, nothing to be concerned about.

Looks like rust is bubbling up behind the right rear wheel well.

One piece hubcaps off a 68 or later car.

The only thing I can tell about the interior is that the headliner is shot and the dash has been cut out for a larger radio. Interesting to note the they suddenly forgot how to use the camera when it came to the interior and under hood shot.

Even if this car was in very good running order and the above problems didn't exist this car wouldn't fetch their asking price, not a 220. MAYBE a 280 would.

I've seen some reasonable looking cars on ebay that turned out to be real dogs in person so I'm guessing this is a $4,000 car. If an inspection doesn't reveal major underbody rot, that is.

These guys are fishing for suckers.

I am in the process of buying one in the USA for $1500 in the same condition. Why ask so much for a "project car" ? .
