Alternator conversion

I'm looking for a direct alternator conversion (if it exists). I have a 70 280SEL inline 6 with a 55amp alternator but need a little more juice to power an updated autio/video, amp system. (I think 80 - 120 amp would work just fine). Does anybody konw of any bolt-on GM/Delco sort of conversion?

Or maybe a good rebuilder that can up-grade my old Bosch unit.

Any help would be great.

Measure the length of the mounting, where the bolt goes through on the engine bracket, and its offset, the pulley size and offset, and visit the junkyard. You could also make a template out of cardstock to make the comparison.

Check out all the BOSCH alternators in your amperage range and buy one. You'll probably need new brushes or a new internal regulator.

Since you'll be adding sensative electronics to your car it would be best to use an electronic regulator not the older style mechanical regulator.

Not part of the in-crowd since 1952. It's BRAKES not breaks. You break a bone, use brakes to stop your car. /rant

Would the W126 alternator also fit a 1969 280 SEC?
