Looking for restoration pics...

Hi.
I would like to see some (read: many) pics on restoring /8 Mercedes-Benz.
I have some questions regarding colors on the original bolts and other equipment in and under the car..
Like, the bolts that hold the front fenders.. Are they allways the same color as the car ?
Are the bolts the hold the hinges for the hood, also the same color as the car or are they kind of yellow-metal looking, like brand new bolts ?

Are looking through the pic-thread at the moment, but if anyone knows any good pages on restoring the /8 or strichacht as they're called.. Or pics from the car was new.

1991 W140 400 SE - SOLD !!
1973 W115 200 -For sale as project.

The /8 models came out in 1968 and are typically the W114 and W115 models. The W108 modesl also had this sales designation.

Not part of the in-crowd since 1952. It's BRAKES not breaks. You break a bone, use brakes to stop your car. /rant

To answer at least two of your questions...

The fender bolts and hinge/screws were all painted to match the overall color of the vehicle, if I recall correctly. Sounds like you have some replacement pieces in there...

For restoration pics...

You may wish to scour eBay for original sales brochures. Back then MB had nice 4 color brochures with lots of photographs.

It might cost you a little money, but an original brochure is a nice added + to go with the vehicle.

Nice one, thanks..
To bad it was the series-2 car it depicted, and not the series-1 that I have..
They're parted in three series, as far as I know.. 0,5-series, 1 and 2-sereis.

Also, I need to get a Paypal account to buy.. Not a real problem really, but I allready get 10mail/week from fake Paypal firms..

The primary difference...

between the early and "face-lift" /8 is the front fenders and the lower splash panel, at least here in the U.S, IIRC.

Radical structural changes between generations back then were not, as they later became on the W210, the order of the day.

Keep your eyes open and you will find the brochure you are looking for... they ARE out there.

Good luck,

JR

Our family has owned /8s since they were new. the bodies were painted complete, that is with all panels in place and in one coat so all body bolt, hinges etc etc are body color. The only non body colored parts are the splash panels inside the front fenders on each side. Those are black. Inside the trunk it's satin Dark grey, not satin or matt black.
the German sites have the most info.
