I also wonder about this: My car has the front upper crossmember painted black, and the serialnumber has been carved/engraved into the plate..
The crossmember at the top, right in front of the radiator.. Where the hood-lock is.
Could this have been replaced ?
Should there be any engravings at all there ?
There are TWO metal-plates there too.. One which contains the color-codes, and equipmentcodes.. (This plate is white.)
Then there's the chassi-numberplate.. Black and shiny with the 115-***-**-****** number and car weight etc..
