There is no VIN per se, they were created in the 1980's. Your option plate has the car's features.

Typically, the 60's and 70's cars have the chassis number in the format:

NNN.nnn-XX-YYYYYY

where NNN is the chassis type
nnn is the model version
XX is for left or right hand drive and for auto or manual
Y is the serial number.

These guys are very good

Hey guys,

I snapped some pics of these numbers.

I am still a little confused about which exact 17 digits I need to submit to the DMV as my official "VIN"?

Thanks in advance,

Eric

Vin numbers from that era were not 17 digits.

Prior to 1981 there were 13 digits for GM & Chrysler, Ford used 11, VW used 10.

I have know idea as to how many M-B would be required to use.

To begin with...

it would be helpful if the OP listed his location in the profile data.

As it is, we are just guessing based upon our experience in each respective locale.

Here in California the VIN would be the 14 digits of the chassis number. No WDB required for this era vehicle, that prefix came later.

my vin on the 69 280S is 6 digits (1 xxxxx 1)
Registered in New Jersey.
I was questioning it at my DMV and they laughed at me saying that "the car is old" "it's ok".
oh well.
