New /8 (1973 W115 200)

Well, then I got my "new" /8 home.. And have looked over here and there.
Seems very good condition, in general..

There are some minor electrical faults.. Or, ONE fault.. The electric fan won't start.. And I can't remember where the cables for it goes. Or how to test the fan itself..
Anyone with a hint on that subject ?

Also, the brakes seem to be a little "off".. Wich means, the right front caliper "hangs" a bit, also the rear left one.. I tried moving the pistons, in the calipers, and they moved nicely.. And there were new gaskets in them allready..
Also, the brake-pedal is very hard, and the brake-responce is imidiate.. That means, 1cm movement on the pedal and the brakes react.
I think there might be a leak in the main cylinder. ??

The electric fan...

can be tested by shorting out the lead from the 100C/212F switch/sensor to ground.

I am not sure where it is located on your 200/8, but on my 250/8 the switch/sensor was located on the thermostat housing.

Nice /8, BTW...

Thanks.. But, 100C or 212F means dideloo to me.. Meaning, I don't know where they are.. There are a contactplug on the left side of the torpedowall. (backwall in enginecompartement) with 4 plugs in it..
Also there are a connectorplug on the left side of the ventilation-control-panel.. So, I don't know if it's the fan, the turning-knob or the wires that are in-operational..

Okay...

When you said "electric fan" I thought you meant the auxiliary electric cooling fan in the engine compartment ahead of the radiator. I took a second look at the pics and you don't have one of those...

So, you are talking about the blower motor for the heating/defroster.

You have a twin "squirrel cage" blower arrangement on the "/8" which is housed inside of the upper console. You can test the switch by pulling out the the radio, reaching inside the assembly., unplugging the connector and trying a new unit.

Or, remove the upper console, after removing the radio, and all shall be revealed. There are two plastic retaining nuts [black plastic caps with two holes for a tool to engage] and two black sheet metal screws near the firewall. If I recall correctly...

The lower dash panels will have to be removed as well from both sides.

You will need to unplug any switches, etc. from the console and it pulls up and away revealing the blower housing, etc.

Good luck,

JR

I've taken out the centre-console now.. And can't see any bolt/screw on it.. Only ONE down in the middle of the front.. (Over the gearbox)
I'll try to take a few photos, while I look closer..

I presume...

you are referring to the "upper" console piece. This should reveal the "heater box and access to the double squirrel cage blower housing.

Keep us posted...

If they...

heavily salt the roads in Norway during the winter, the condition is actually not too bad; but, the second day look can always be a bit "sobering". Personally, if I was going to put that much effort into a car of that era, it would be a 250C...

Good luck on the project.

Well, the prices of these cars can be steep..
This car cost me about 15.000NOK = 3.000 USD..
The owner also had a 250C, but that one was in worse shape, and costed 35.000NOK= 7.000 USD.. Not worth it, I think..
