hehe.. Just got the papers on the car.. Original instruction manual, original parts catalog, A guarantee checkbook from 1973 when the car was new.. To free services included, within the first 5.000km..
And two "goodies".. The two original datacards" With chassinumber, engine number, key number etc etc.. Really cool I think ..

Those pieces...

take me back to the days when I owned a 250S, 250/8, 250C, 280SE 4.5 and a 300SEL 6.3 [not all at once, though].

You have me thinking I should keep an eye open for something "vintage," just for fun.

My thoughts are..
The /8 needs some repair, but other than that, it shouldn't cost me more than 300USD pr year as a vintage-auto.. (My 400 SE costs 1900USD per year in insurance and road-taxes) So, there's a lot of money to save.. Especially since I'm not a daily commuter.

Ok, today I dismantled this: Hood, front bumper, front plate, both front fender, and altså all the parts that were on the front fenders.. Headlights, sidemarkers, chrome, wheelarchchrome etc etc...
This is the rest-- meaning what's left og the metal under there..
Not to bad I think..

Fan repair is not Easy!!

Quote:
There are some minor electrical faults.. Or, ONE fault.. The electric fan won't start.. And I can't remember where the cables for it goes. Or how to test the fan itself..
Anyone with a hint on that subject ?"..
The fan motor was designed to last the life of the car,but as has been said often the Car will last three or four car liffetimes so the fan will have to removed and either replaced or overhualed.
To remove the fan you must start by removing the front seats.
Then trhe center console,
The heater is next.
Followed by the dashboard.
There is no other way to do it I'm afraid.
The caged device in this picture is the resistor for the fan motor. the fan motors cable runs through the airbox in front of the windsheild to this point.

You may have to remove the windsheild to get the dashboard free. In this case you can get at the rust in that area easily.

hehe.. I know where the fan is hidden.. Just dimanteled a complete heater from another /8.. Took the heatermatrix, fan, controls etc.. All of it.. So I had a spare for my own car..

I need to test the fan first, then the controls, then the wiring.. To see what's causing the error..

Quite often...

the problem lies with the fan speed switch. Perhaps you will get lucky in this one.

. lucky ??
Well, I stuck my fingers down the front, down to the fan.. Thought it might need a little push to get started.. hehe.. No, that fan is GONE..
Barely made it turn, sounded like the inside of it was all loose..
Good thing I allready have another one.. Plugged the "new" fan into the connector.. And swish.. The fan worked ok..
So it was only the old fan that was gone..
Maybee I'll try to get my hands on another fan too..
