W115 floorshift, conversion to Power steering

Hi.
I've just bought a 1971 /8 200. (W115) Wich basicly has no equipment at all.
I would like to put in Power-steering.
I have the pump, the reservoir, the hoses and the steeringgear itself.

BUT, the guy I bought it from said"You have to shorten your steeringshaft.. Aprox 10mm or so, to make the gear fit.
Also, I saw that some web-shop had the little link that goes between the steering gear and the steeringshaft for sale.. And it looked shorter than the original link..
Does anybody know if I need to shorten the steering-shaft ?
Or can I just buy one of those links ?

I could also get my hands on another steeringshaft, and thus keep the original for later use..

Have you tried to mount the new steering gear? You could also check with the classic center about part numbers or use the EPC to check it yourself.

If you do replace the steering gear, make sure you use new bolts to mount the steering gear.

Not part of the in-crowd since 1952. It's BRAKES not breaks. You break a bone, use brakes to stop your car. /rant

Also...

when you pull the original steering box, check around the mounting holes for cracking of the inner fender panels.

The W114-115 chassis is known for this, and there is a modification kit available which contains a heavy reinforcing place and new, longer bolts. The reinforcement is actually MiG-welded to the frame and helps to take some of the strain off of the chassis sheet metal/frame rails.

Good luck on the project.

Wasn't aware of the reinforcement kit.. Have to check the EPC later for that..
I will of course check everything when I dismantle and assemble things..
