The short answer is...
Be very careful who does the work. American machine shops, when boring for repair size pistons, will typically use the tolerances for domestic vehicles, and the bores will be oversize... You need to get a shop who knows the MB engine to do the work.
Also with the twin cam, M110, often a new cylinder head is required. I have not priced them lately, but I am guessing about $2K for the head alone.
The more economical solution is to look for a good used engine... there are still some out there, if you look diligently.
