Bought a 74 240D

In 1974 M/B built my 240D and destined it for Atlanta GA. Once in Georgia, a Mr. Weldon saw the Benz and had to have it. He loved the car and kept every last detail about it until his death in 1993.

That year his son became the new cars occupier. It bounced back and forth between his brother and a brother's son but the Mercedes just couldn't find a loving home.

So LAST night I'm in Tampa at my father's house and I spot this beauty 5 houses down from my Pop's place.

I stroll down the road and ask about it because:
1. I like German cars
2. I was bored.

Fastforward one hour and I was the new owner of this German Panzer...err...240D.

The battery was dead so after a quick jump it cranked up but even after running it around this morning it didn't restart. After installing a new battery the size of two normal car batteries, I aired up the tires and drove it 200+ miles at 75mph with NO problems.

I've owned 30+ dubs and this is my third none VW but I'm happy to have it in the family.

I submit to new 240 D

Forgot to add. No rust, no wrecks, all original glass. All owners manual, all three keys(2 regular, 1 valet), original spare tire, etc...

I have a small problem. the fuse for the clock, antennae, cabin light etc is good but none of the above work. Does anyone know of a wiring diagram online or a place to buy a workbook for it.

For VW, Bentley's are the way to go as they are the most in depth. What's the best for a benz? The Chilton's manual that came with it is worthless for the electrical section.

Make sure your glow plugs are all working properly. That might help with the hard starts. Even thought the fuse looks good, try rolling it or replacing with newer copper style fuse to ensure good contact. Check attached for wiring diagram. Oh and check here for a service manual.

Congrats! Looks to be in great shape judging by the pics. Nice story to boot! Every Mercedes should have one.

Sure looks nice and that 4spd should help with the err...lackluster performance. This manual is for the later 123 body diesels, but should still be useful for the engine-related stuff.
