Help! 240d fuel door release?

Alright, embarrassing question.

I just got a 1979 240d yesterday and I cannot, for the life of me, find the lever to release the fuel door in order to gas up. Can someone enlighten me?

The release is...

vacuum actuated, and not a manual release at all.

Are you locking the doors on the car when attempting to fill? If you lock the doors, it will lock the filler door as well.

If the vacuum bellows unit that retracts the pin is malfunctioning, you should be able to get at it from the trunk.

Good luck,

JR

The Fuel Door Lock is malfunctioning.
The vacuum bellow works fine, but the pin doesnt retract, I usually have to retract from the trunk/boot manually.
How can I detach it from the car to have a closer look/inspection and possibly repair or replace.

Thanks.
