I recently purchased a nice 1969 230. I want to swap in a 2.8 DOHC motor(110.921). Is there any specific years for this motor that are better than others, or are they all prety much the same??? I plan on throwing a set of side draft webbers on it, so I am not woried about which one has better carbs or injection.
While I am at it... Any ideas as to suppliers for performance parts for these motors???? (cams, pistons, etc.??)

Other than carbureted/injected there isn't much to choose from. If you're looking for the best possible performance, try to find a Euro injected version.
I was mostly interested in things like improved timing chains, better heads, etc... Do the injected motors have higher compression???
Any leads on performance parts??? Someone has to race these motors, I want to know where they shop.... I have carbs, and a manifold should not be too hard to fab. Headers are no biggie either. I need help on the engine internals department....
the 6 cylinder engines of your car's era, if injected, were for the most part mechanically injected. There were single cam EFI engines, and twin cam CIS injected sixes... mostly on the 250CE and 280E/CE
Mechanical injection and unleaded fuel are not a good mix, unless additives are utilized. The lead in the fuel had a lubricating quality that was needed for the injection pump.
The twin cam will not just drop into your W114 chassis; modification of the firewall will be required.
Then you have to deal with wiring harnesses, etc... It is not an easy proposition.
As stated, I don't care what fuel injection system is better, or what additives I need to add, since I will be using 3 side draft Webbers...
As far as firewall issues, I have a welder.... How much bigger than the 2.3 l6 is this thing??? This motor was avalible in some 114 chasis cars, so it shouldn't be too bad....
As far as wiring, without injection, I am down to Alt, Dist, and a few temp and pressure sunsors....... Shouldn't bee too bat there either..... I know what is involved in doing engine swaps, I just don't know much about mercedes motors....
I am sure there are more powerfull motors I could use, but I really like the asthetics of this motor, and it is almost period proper for my '69

is much wider than the single cam, and your car has two tubular reinforcements that run downward from a raised part at the center of the firewall that will have to be removed. Re-strengthening the areas affected is up to your expertise.
Three side draft Webers, eh? I hope you get some good advice on the jetting of those, otherwise you will be tinkering for a good while. I went through that process on fitting a pair of Mikuni Solexes on a 190SL.
Truth be told, the M110 is U.S. trim was significantly "de-tuned" from its European counterpart in order to meet emissions requirements. Also getting to the #6 spark plug, even with a correctly configured, later version firewall is a "booger", hence many, many heads with cross threaded #6 spark plug holes... a word to the wise. A thing of beauty and a joy forever it was not.
[At least in U.S. trim anyway...]
I am quite handy with the jetting.. After years of sticking Webers on VW's, I think I have got the hang of it...
I am saddened by the lack of anything "high performance" avalible for any of the Mercedes engines.... Just about any other manufacturer you can think of, there are scads of people making power parts for motors... Doesn't anyone try to get more power out of these things???
The 250/8 I owned for many years was +/- 155 HP out of 2.5 litres, or 155 CID; that equates to 1 HP/CID, or 62 HP/Litre. Not bad for a normally aspirated, 2 valves/cylinder engine.
It really wasn't until AMG [as a separate company] started "hot rodding" Mercedes cars that there was any significant after-market performance outlet at all.
you'd be better off with a straight 6 M103 from a 300e. There should be plenty in the pick&pulls. It will have the same intake problems the M110 has, but it's narrower up top so as not to get in the way of the two reinforcements. Or at least, I think it's narrow enough.
these guys are pretty hard to find, i believe the newest SL's had the best engine, not sure how those compared with euro's though. i love my import. not the right engine to throw in and carb...
