Something weird with my 108

Here's the scoop, I've got a 70, 280SEL, it runs great but has developed a weird issue. It started leaking not that long ago. After investigating the leak, I discovered that intake bellow (Hose between the throttle body and air canister) had a bunch of oil in it. The only place it could be coming from is from the crank case vent off of the valve cover. (As it is before the throttle body.)

I took off the beather hose and can't believe how much pressure actually comes from there. (Along with a bit of oily smoke)

Any ideas on why so much oil is coming out? Valve seals? Guides? Wouldn't either of these cause the car not to run well? As before, the car runs very well. (And doesn't smoke) I'm stumped.... any ideas?

How many miles...

on the car/engine?

Sounds like "blow-by" and that means rings... which is not good news.

If it runs okay, and does not consume too much oil, just clean up the mess, switch to 20-50 [if you are not already using this weight] oil and drive it.

Eventually, you will have to do something, but in your locale there are no smog issues, so... it can wait.

I had this same symptom on my 280SE, cleaned the mess up and after my first oil change the oil never seemed to come back. I had the car for over 18 months, and it never skipped a beat.

In that rubber hose should be an oil wic ( screen) to keep oil from being pulled into the intake. If that is in place try changing the oil with 30wt. of the total qty needed substitute 1 quart with type A transmission fuild. You will need to change oil in a week cause this will scrub the motor!
