'71 C 250 value?

Greetings,

The car as described above has been sitting outside for about the last 5-7 years. It's never driven and all but one tire has gone flat. Hey it's still a beautiful car.

The other day the owner was out cutting his grass so I decided to stop and see if perhaps he would like to sell it. I don't know that I'm interested in buying it but ...

He said he had just called someone about the cost to restore it again, apparently he had restored once before, and if the cost was to high he might be interested in selling. He told me the car had less than 60k miles on it and it ran fine when he parked it. He also stated that it had some rust spots on it. I was in a hurry and could only look at it briefly.

There were a dozen or so rust spots all over the car and looking at them carefully one could see that it was just surface rust from the loss of paint. The interior was well worn but it wasn't missing anything and everything looked original. I didn't have time to look at the motor or undercarriage and am well aware of the rust issue.

Given that I wouldn't purchase the car without a thorough examination my problem is that I don't really know what these cars go for based on condition.

I looked around on e-bay but didn't find enough cars like this by which to make any kind of realistic comparison.

So, anybody have a "schedule of values" for these cars based on condition?

Thanks in advance,
daniel

In Europe, a good one 100% original or 100% restored in class 1 (of 1 to 5)
Could be sold for up to 20.000 euros, but it's normal between 12.500 and 17.500 euros.
A class 2, could be sold for 7.500 -12.500
A class 3, could go for 3k++
A class 4, could go for 1,5k +
A class 5, wich is ready to wrecked really.. The condition is so bad it's not worth to repair, unless it's among the rarest cars of all.. (Like a 600, 300 SEL 6.3, Gullwing, 540K etc)
Check out mobile.de to see different prices there..
Not many 250C's though, but MANY 250CE's then..

I bought mine '73 280CE (1.5 series, quite rare) , about 75-80% perfect condition for about 7500 USD. I think I was quite lucky with this price.

Here in Hungary a quite good one (around 90%) 250 or 280 can goes around 13.000-19.000 USD. So almost the same prices as mentioned before by Eirik.

A car with low miles can easily multiply the price even if the car isnt in that good condition. But I think the max should be around 22-24k USD for perfect one with low miles and good extras/color (Ikonengold rules ).

A friend of mine started laughing when I printed out the models of his liking from the Gold Book Classics..
Some of those data must be 5-10 years old.. He said..
Like the data for Desoto and Imperial.. But I'm sure some of the data are ok..
