need info about automatic w108

Hi to everyone,
I´m new in this forum and looking for some info.
Now I´m living in Indonesia and I´m thinking about buying a 1970 w108 280S in good condition. The car is automatic but the owner doesn´t really know if the transmission is original or has been changed which is a normal practice in this country and it makes a big difference regarding to the price.
Is there any way to know from the engine number if the car was originally automatic? Any other info to make it sure?

My suspicion is it was changed as I believe a -12- in the chassis number means automatic.

I found this information for the pontong serial number that might be applied to the w108 model. See attachment.
