Facts I know about the engine came from a 2 seater, its an I6 only visible thing that I could discern to attempt to ID the engine is the number[180 223 38 04 230/250(?)] in the last photo. After attempting to look through countless images threads and various MercBenz sites and tables.
I'm leaning toward the fact that it could be from a W107 Chassis.
On the block above the oil filter mount is a flat spot and the engine serial number is stamped there. Use some fine sandpaper to clean the flat area and some chalk to make the numbers visible. They will be in for form NNN.NNN-1N-NNNNNN. Most likely it's from a W108 280S, by the look of it.
The engine is a M180 so the s# will be 180nnn-12-nnnnnn. The 12 signifies a left hand drive automatic transmission engine.

Thanks wbain, I found it. Unfortunately I forgot the piece of paper with the # on it :\
