Timing chain question

Hello all, I am new here, and currently looking at buying a 1979 450 SEL. The car has 80,000 miles on it, so everything is pretty tight except the seller said that the timing chain broke. He also said that the dealer told him that the engine (4.5L) is not an interference type. From reading some of the threads here, it sounds like he's feeding me a line! Can someone please tell me the truth?

I've been there, same motor, same thing.
It does interfere, bent valves,
can you do the fix yourself? (if not plan on $2,500 for job)
The good part.......
This motor had 215,000miles on it and after valve job smogged better than new.
the piston tops had a very light soft crust, still had hone marks in bores.
don't pay more than $1k for it. maybe more if the body is perfect
