restoration advice for a 1970 se

Hi All,

My girlfriend has a 1970 se 3.5 convertible which needs restoration. She lives in New Jersey and so needs advice on a good place to go to. I saw a shop in S Carolina but I would have to drag it all the way down there for them to even look at it, which is a pain in the a**. Anywhere more local you guys can recommend?

The car is a driver and was restored maybe 10 years ago before she got t. Unfortunately, the paint was not primed well so it needs a full repaint. There is rust through on the driver's floorpan and in one of the rear wings inside the trunk.

The car is apparently a german made one and is genuine (I checked the VIN and all matches and is correct). It runs really well but needs the bodywork done before it gets too bad. Hood and interior are OK but she wants the body and mechanicals making good so she can enjoy it for the next years to come. Don't want a rough restoration but don't want a concourse car that she can't enjoy for fear her teenage kids will scratch it.
Not sure if this makes sense but hopefully you can give some advice on saving the car from deteriorating and giving back a car which can be enjoyed.

Here's a link to an MBCA article.

These are rare and desireable cars if in perfect condition. Cruse this forum and others, such as:

These are other links available but check these first.

Not part of the in-crowd since 1952. It's BRAKES not breaks. You break a bone, use brakes to stop your car. /rant

There are lots of responses to many of the posts Kennyz. Perhaps no one is in the market for a 4.5 with a bad fuel pump ...
