WHAT YEAR AND MODEL IS MY M BENZ?

I am here in Kuwait as a contractor and purchased a supposedly 1983 300SE (that's what it says on the registration!). When I went to look for parts, I realized that there was no 1983 300SE! I checked the vin# on the car again and went to check it on this site and found out that the vin# I have is not complete! Some vehicles here in Kuwait are messed up, there are cars that where reported stolen in the USA and just like my wrong vin#'s. How can I find out where the engine number is and the chassis #. Using the vin plate that's on top of the radiator is the same number that I have on my registration, and also noticed that it looks like a new one-nice and shiny! I have no problem registering it, just want to know exactly what I have. I also have the 3rd lite on the glass----looks original. Please help....

Look for the VIN on a plate in the driver's door jamb.

The vin# of this particular car is above the radiator by the hood latches, nothing on the door jamb. This is the euro version. I know there must be an engine number on the engine block and maybe a chassis# on the chassis somewhere...?

If there's no plate on the door jamb, check the lower left corner of the windshield. The plate over the radiator holds many numbers, but the VIN is not among them.

Is the car a5 cyl, a 6 cyl or an 8 cyl? Post the VIN and we can check it out. Does is use diesel or gas?
