Here's an example of what you'll be up against. Read the post and decide if you can do any work on this car yourself.

Like i said in the thread already, this car will be taken apart and sold to help save other W109's.

What i need to know is what parts should i save and what parts do i sent to the scrap yard.

This is why i am asking what the differences are in the 6.3 and what further is different on this model being that its European spec.

Since it's a Eurospec model, it probably has a higher compression engine. The US models originally came with the regular compression ratio then were downrated due to emissions.

Keep all the air suspension equipment, the leveling valves, suspension control lever inside the car by the driver, instruments, pretty much all the detachable components.

My dad took his air suspension out - it got to be a daily job, looking for leaks. He ended up taking the suspension guts out of a 280SEL, effectively making his 300 into the same car...

As a Euro car it is worth more complete than as parts. The last 6.3 engine i saw on US ebay sold for $150 and a frequent poster here bought it.
Buy it, place it on German Ebay where you will find buyer looking for an almost rust free Mercedes. To part it out is sacrilage of the first order because You are not handling a Chev nova there, you are dealing with car one of only 6250 built and 6.3 owners will shun you for dismantling it.

6.3 owners will shun you... Hmmmmmmm, someone you have never met, and have never placed eyes on, would shun you because you parted out a rusty car with no hope of its own future, in order to keep one running and on the road. DAMN!!! Those shunning fools!!!

I completed a total restoration of a 1969 6.3 from the ground up. Took more years than I could have imagined. If you want to calculate the actual cost simply take the the cost of restoring, let's say, a 108 280 SEL 4.5 and multiply that amount by 6.3 and that should cover it.

Like i said..one of 6250 built, with probably fewer than 3000 still in existance ...to part one out in 2007 is extremely foolish considering the last was built in 1972.
Most us of buy the lesser 3.5/4.5 300SEL's for parts car to get any parts that are needed. As an example of what you would be up against, on US ebay at the moment are two sought after 6.3 parts...no takers and both items have been relisted twice.
Sure they cost a bundle to restore ,so what? they were the worlds most expensive car when new.You want to do a cheap resto? buy a nova.
And what is Rust?
Heres some shots of what any handy person can do at home.
DropShots.com
got rust in the rear? just buy new panels and replace them.

Radical surgery can be performed on any car, never let a little thing like rust put you off!
