300SE rust repair

I hate to be the one, but can you provide any pictures? At this point I am going to need inspiration.
here is the update today. I bought the front crossmember after it got delivered I discovered there is an inner piece as well, so both will be installed on Saturday. I am going to post pictures of the progress.

Chris can be hard to reach some times. He does get a boatload of mail. He will respond eventually. Send him a welding photo; that will get his attention. He's got dozens of coupes and sedans. I think it's over 70 by now. -CTH

Well, an update to anyone still reading this post. IT'S ALIVE. I changed the oil, reconnected the radiator, charged the battery and it started/ ran again. The fan is free spinning and never locking up to pull air through the radiator, so I shut it down just before it got hot. I need to address that change the oil and again new filter and run again I would like to run at least 1/4 tank of new gas to settle the engine in after not running for 25 yrs. Yesterday I noticed the oil change sticker in the door jam -- so -- the last know oil change was in 1979 mileage was 59,160 unbelievable that someone would drive a car like this and for some unknown reason just park it and forget it. Too bad they did not park it in the barn instead of the field.

Is the fan electric or hydrualic? .It shouldn't have fan clutch like the later models,so the engine may not have been hot enough to start the fan.

fan belt driven but freewheels, is not electric, and I can not tell from looking at whether or not it is viscous. I cleaned the hub then duct taped the fan and hub together with enough tape to hold and joint then I put zip ties to lock it all together. If anyone is reading and laughing, - for my test run it worked. I also realized why buying filters from dealer makes sense. It included the crush ring for drain plug, two crush rings for housing bolt on filter, and o ring. Jim

you did check the coupler between the water pump and generator and have verified that it is not broken...mine was a 1967 but should be the same for 1965...
