My 280SE 4.5, your thoughts are appreciated!

Working on my '72 280SE 4.5.

I am looking at changing the shifter from the column to the floor.
Has anyone done this? Would appreciate any thoughts/ideas.

I will be stripping a stainless exhaust off another car and installing.
Car looks like hell; exhaust looks almost like new.

I got urethane bushings from Cox Racing Group.
Need to install & would like to consider other "mild" upgrades.
Would like to go to 16 inch wheels like the early 90's SL's.
Thoughts/etc. on this subject.

Additionally, I am parting out the above mentioned shifter donor.
Does anyone need anything?

It's not about the money. It's about the cars!

I love this forum.
Thanks in advance!

You need the steering column and the floor shift, along with the throttle position mechanism, reverse lock out wiring ( column cars sometimes have the firewall mounted switch) and shift rod for the trans. I don't think anyone has ever bothered because theres no real advantage.
Which bushes are you looking to replace? .Be careful when fitting stiffer bushes to the sway bars because the cars are designed to have a certain amount of roll, too little roll and you'll look like a ricer drift king. If the car is swaying too much into turns it maybe because the sway bar bushes have worn out. When were the shocks last replaced? . these cars are very forgiving when it comes to things like that and many owners are unaware that the car is'nt driving as well as it should.
