72 280se electric windows

strangely this morning the front driver and rear pasenger window switches became inoperative. common fuse? common problem. where are the fuses for the windows?

They should be in seperate fuse holders under the hood, on the fire wall on the passenger side.

Yes, common fuse. Probably corroded. spin the fuse around in the holder, usually will allow it to work again. Then replace all the fuses with brass element type, less likely to corrode.
