A streamlined schedule, boundless driving pleasure for participants and a top-class starting line-up of racing talent are the key features of the 8th Mercedes-Benz Classic Days 2007. There will be more innovations this year than ever before. Once again, the venue is Mozart's home town of Salzburg in the picturesque Salzkammergut region.
With a great deal of work and attention to detail, the Mercedes-Benz Club Management team of Mercedes-Benz Museum GmbH has revamped the schedule of the Mercedes-Benz Classic Days. It has been streamlined and made even better in many respects. "Our aim was to provide an even higher quality of support to the participants at the Mercedes-Benz Classic Days," says Michael Bock, Managing Director of Mercedes-Benz Museum GmbH, explaining the innovations. "Active driving pleasure, interesting discussions, lots of racing talent and optimum service quality are designed to ensure that this year's Mercedes-Benz Classic Days will again be a memorable experience for all participants."
Two event modules: Rally and sport events
When the 180 teams meet up at the Salzburgring for the 8th Mercedes-Benz Classic Days from September 2 to 9, they will encounter a whole raft of innovations. For instance, this time the emphasis is on even more active driving pleasure and even more time for the participants to talk shop.
The week is divided into two modules, the sporting event and the rally event. The sporting event, which runs until Tuesday, focuses on open driving, training and finally regularity tests for the participants and their classic Mercedes-Benz vehicles on the Salzburgring. On Wednesday, the participants are spoilt for choice. They have the options of driver safety training on the track or guided tours of Salzburg or the Salzkammergut.
On Thursday, the rally schedule kicks off with the first run into the mountains, followed by the second run to Lake Chiemsee on Friday. Saturday sees the grand Mercedes-Benz Classic Days finale on the Salzburgring. In a feast for the senses, there will be a host of events typical of Mercedes-Benz: automobile parades, demonstrations of historical Silver Arrows, and fast laps in Mercedes-Benz racing classics.
Racing legends galore
For the first time ever at the Mercedes-Benz Classic Days, a whole host of racing legends will be lining up on the Salzburgring on Saturday. They include Eugen Böhringer, born 1922, twice winner (1962 and 1963) of the Liege – Sofia – Liege rally which went down in history as the Road Marathon.
He will be joined by Hans Herrmann, born 1928, whose name – along with Juan Manuel Fangio and Stirling Moss – is inextricably linked with the return of the then Daimler-Benz AG to Grand Prix racing in the 1950s. Another legend in attendance will be Dieter Glemser, who twice won the Argentinean Road Grand Prix for the former Daimler-Benz AG and scored numerous class wins in various hillclimb and track races on the Nürburgring. Former Formula One racing driver Jochen Mass is coming straight from the Arosa Classic race to the Salzburgring. At 57, the youngest of the racing drivers is ex-German Touring Car Championship driver Roland Asch. Five drivers with almost 300 years of motor sport experience between them.
The range of racing cars is least as diverse as their drivers: Formula One, German Touring Car Championship, Group C and Indy Car. "With this fabulous array of famous motor sport legends and cars, we create a direct link with the great history of motor sports at Mercedes-Benz for the first time in the history of the Mercedes-Benz Classic Days," says Michael Bock, justifiably enthusiastic about the "grand finale". "Legends of the road, coupled with legends of the racetrack – an emotionally unparalleled presentation of the incomparable automotive history of the Mercedes-Benz brand."
Another new feature will be the daily reports on the Mercedes-Benz Classic Days on the internet. Interesting reports on the day's action, previews of the next day and numerous pictures will be available to the many members of the Mercedes-Benz Clubs throughout the world at
Mercedes-Benz Club Management.
