IMHO the last old school MBs were the 124s. I get that a lot from mechanics, so no egos here. I drove a 2004 E-class for a while and really felt like it was a step backward in craftsmanship and that elusive quality-feel.
These 114s are still greatly undervalued, and you can pick one up for pocket change if you look. I recently purchased a '72 250C, a rust-free example with one quality repaint , that had spent most of its life in Nevada, so dry as a bone, rust-free. Chrome and stainless are immaculate. The car has obviously been pampered all it's life, and has managed to accrue only 65K verified miles in the last 35 years. Climbing into the interior is like entering a time machine. Truly looks like a three-year old car, with the added benefit of that old European car smell.
Maybe the lack of support for a W114 forum is simply a lack of knowledge of the goodness of these cars. (They were entry-level Benzes, after all.) I'm doing my part by driving her every nice day we get (which means most days) and answering the gas pump questions. The waves and thumbs-ups are just a bonus.
