New to the forum....just picked up a '72 300sel 3.5 from Neil Dubey up at Star Motors. Runs great, looks great. Was wondering, though, if anyone here has had experience running a custom sound and alarm system for their vintage merc (espec. w108/109 bodies) - and if the 55amp alternator can handle anything more than what the car has. Thanks much!
The alternator is properly sized for the car. If you're going to add more electronics to the car, you'll need to find a higher amperage alternator. I have no experience witn alarm systems for the car.

A well established alternator rebuilder can alter the amp rating on your alternator during the rebuild. Providing more windings to increase amp output. The older MB's can have alarms added like any other car, its just that they're not readily adaptable to keyless entry because of the vacuuum controlled door locks. It can be done but it requires electrical solenoids be installed in all 4 doors and the vacuum system disconnected and plugged off. If it were mine, I'd only have an ignition kill switch installed and hidden. I am not fond of whistles and alarm sirens at all. Leave the door locks as they are designed.
