Yeah Thanks for posting, was invaluable recently as i had a problem with my 280s.
I have read everywhere about the carb warping , and true enough , every solex i have stripped down has been majorly warped.
Though most people blame this on an ongoing overtightening of the four mounting studs, I think its also the overtightening of the central airfilter housing. This pulls up the centre of the carb and all the carb bodies show it warping from the centre up which supports this theory.
If your solex is only warped a few mm, I have wondered if the centre hole for the filter housing stud could be drilled out from bottom baseplate
and up to it meets the center stud thread allowing a bolt to be screwed in from the base pulling the carb body back down clamping it to base plate,
If the bolt was the correct length it would still allow the filter housing stud to screw home. This combined with custom thicker gaskets would solve the problem and stop future warping as well.
That massively heavy steel air filter housing is part of the problem too, and although getting away from original , a lightweight alloy housing of some description would be a far better idea, only needing a bolt gently nipped up to hold housing on.
