114 4-spd auto flares in 2nd.
Unsure what the actual trans number is. The problem is that when going from 4th to 2nd (ex: decellerating and coming to a stop) the transmission goes into a sort of neutral but also vibrates in a rythmic manner. As soon as the operator taps the gas the transmissin re-engages with a thud. I said it goes into neutral but it isn't neutral because if I shift into neutral while the problem is occouring the vibration stops. I've tried adjusting the kickdown rod but it has little effect on the problem. As I understand it there is a band, B1 I think, that is related only to 2nd gear. However, I'm thinking it may be a problem in the valve body as the problem only happens after shifting from a higher gear. Another interesting observation is that if I drive with two feet and keep the accelerator pedal depressed at a stop, the problem only occours breifly and quickly clunks back into gear. Keep in mind in this insatnce I am not increasing engine speed, just taking the play out of the throttle linkage. Since there was no actual engine speed increase I don't think it is a pressure problem. I have replaced the fluid and the problem did not change.
Anyone experienced this before, have a quick fix? This car has been in storage for 15 years.
Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom.
