Exclamation 1975 240D Oil Filter Screwups

Just changed the oil on my recently purchased '75 240D and who ever did it last was a complete jackass. Not only was there no rubber o ring seal for the casing but they also neglected to re-install the pre-filter element and the spring was facing the wrong way on the shaft as well. So if you find yourself with one of these models you might want to insure that everything is there in good working order. Here's a page depicting the correct assembly:

Just a heads up.... I'm dead in the water until I get the upper filter. Grrrrr.

That is one crappy oil change job, too. There's almost no way to do it without taking a bath as I recall...

It's a pretty nasty affair, you need a BIG drain pan, nitrile gloves (without which my hands would be permanently stained diesel oil black) and car ramps are a must. Be nice if there was an after-market relocation kit.
