73 280 sel 4.5 starting problems

I recently took on the project to get this car running. It had been sitting for years. the tank had been drained, but not cleaned, and the fuel pump got all glogged up with junk. I cleaned the pump, and got the car to run. but a day after it sterted running it died. We pulled the fuel tank and had it cleaned at a radiator shop, purchased a new pump at a local auto parts store (not a basch pump, but the pump is said to be spec'd for the car) I blew the lines out with compressed air, and pulled the injectors, blew them out with carb cleaner, and compressed air from both ends, and installed new hoses and clamps for the fuel rails also making sure that they were clean. the car will start and run for a few seconds if i pour fuel into the intake, but otherwise does not want to start.

does it metter which way the plugs go into the injectors? I noticed that they are beveled on one side, but sometimes that beveled side is down, and sometimes it is up.

is it possible that in blowing the lines out with air could have damaged any of the pressure regulators, or the cold start valve?

are there any aftermarket pumps that are acceptable for use in this system?

would a plug upside down ruin an injector?

any help would be much appreciated. I bought a book for this car, but it is a bit vague on the electronic fuel injection system....

Thanks in advance!!!

First, place all the injector wires on correctly i.e. beveled edge to beveled edge. You have D Jetronic BTW

Did you replace the injector O-rings too?

Then go here for troubleshooting
