Tranny leak, help!

I just got back from driving 70 miles through the city, and i noticed my transmission leaking a little bit of fluid, i jacked it up and the transmission is pretty warm. I saw that its leaking from this vent looking thing at the bottom of the front of the transmission, where the torque converter(im assuming) is. Anyone know why it would be leaking from there? And is it bad or will it be okay, my tranny is at half full of fluid btw.

The 95% probability given that description is the front-pump seal, particularly in light of the age of the car.

It's an inexpensive part that is very expensive to replace as either the engine or transmission must be removed from the car.

If you must drive it then be sure to keep it topped up with fluid, if you run low it's going to get even more expensive.

Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

Probably would not hurt to try something like TRANS X transmission stop leak in the mean time. Could slow it down?

These are normal rotating shaft seal age problems.
It is best to do the rear crank and trans front at the same time. (4.5)
Yeah I know it costs.
but these are the cheapest cars on the road over time.

leaking atf transmission fluid W108

Hello,

Anyone ever removed the tranny and replaced these seals before? how difficult? where did you get the seals? Can it be done in my garage with 4 jackstands and a tranny lift? thanks

Take a look at the online resources portion of the forum - I put up some stuff on the 108's tranny. If there's nothing in there on the rotating seals, I'll dig and find something more appropriate.
