A friend is installing a 5 spd. zf tranny into his 68 280 sl but is missing the correct rear transmission mount.....Mercedes doesn't have them anymore....Anybody have one or know of a source.....?
I have found that with a lot of Mercedes parts lists lately,the same part( what ever is required) can be found on a different model part list,an example is self leveling pumps,I had W114 with rear self leveling .The pump was leaking so the PO sold it to me because Mercedes No longer list a part.Same pump as all the other models ( 114.115.123.126 116 etc etc ).
Another is the center bearing mount.On my 500SEc the mount had failed so I went to my local dealer and asked for a new one,to be told" they no longer list them"..(!!??) .Duh.look under any W126 and it's same part.
Then they told me there was a 6 week delay to get one from Germany.ebay to the rescue.
On the 6.3 there is switch on the intake body which controls the transmission oil pressure when idling in gear.
Again Mercedes say this part is no longer available.Yes it is,it's the same part on W111 ,112,and W113's .and is commonly available for them anywhere.So never take their word for it.
So as far I can see,the parts are available ,we just need to look a bit harder at the lists of parts in other models.

The part needed wasn't actually the mount...it was the rear support bracket ...Sorry ! It is different on the 5 speed ZF than the 4 speed so this is what made it so difficult/ impossible as it turned out to locate. He had to fabricate one from a 4 speed rear transmission bracket in order to get the job done...
